Perry, As an Avid user, I can tell you that those are the only things about Avid that are up. Arguably, they make the best editing system on the market (Composer) and they are the industry standard. Just as arguably, their customer relations SUCK. It just took me over 3 weeks of getting lost in their phone system to order a set of user's manuals. In 3 weeks and at least 6 phone calls, I got only one call back to MY voice mail. When I finally got a live person on the phone he said he couldn't take the order that it had to be the guy who wouldn't call me back. After telling the new guy how unresponsive the company had been, he finally took my order. Then I got an astronomical charge on my american express.

This is not the first time this has happened. Until recently, tech support was a joke with hour long holds and poorly trained tech reps. This is not a good response when someone has spent over $50K on one machine alone and has perhaps another 3 systems in house. It also makes for many tense moments trying to make air dates for broadcast.

They make a great machine, but they have built an unresponsive bureaucracy as a company. I work freelance for almost a dozen facilities and production companies in Manhattan and not one is satisfied with Avid as a vendor.

I just found this thread and will follow with interest in the hopes that maybe they can turn around. (Both from the point of view of a long time daily user and a potential investor). If they do, I'll buy their stock.

Tony
