Wasn't perceived as an attack.

But I think the rare person willing to work their butt off for a company is rare these days.

I envision a hoard of bandit kings who want to control CPQ, take what they can. If they can return the company to health, fine.

If it doesn't work out they will just abandon it and leave with enough compensation to "never work again".

What did EP get? I bet if he put his package into a bunch of mutual funds and other investments, he could live rather comfortably for the rest of his life purely off the interest.

The kind of person with the talent and inner need to create a success from what CPQ has become will be difficult to find.

What I expect is someone who will 1) Reduce headcount 2) Sell off assets 3) Reduce operating costs across the board 4) Maintain rigid control over all operations. If that doesn't work find another job and take the package.

My concern is that they may reduce CPQ into "just a boxmaker".

That was what Gil Amelio almost did to AAPL. He was hired by AAPL as the "crack" turnaround artist who brought NCR back to "profitability". Now that's a successful computer company!

Anyway, Steve Jobs is not likely to go to CPQ, but I think he's the type that they should be looking for.
