Add my bet on Intel too.

In my career, I got the opportunity to use some of those chips list above to either design system boards or to develop software.

My impression is that there are some good chips running faster than Pentium,(Including AMD K6, this is verified from my source). However, I give INTEL the highest grade because their overall supports.

We have been testing some software on Pentiumn system years before it released to public. I was "very" impressed with their labs. They don't just have the engineer resource to assist customer to design the PC board, but also lots of engineer resource to help every x86 cross compilier runs the best on Pentiumn architecture. Not many company have this kinds of resource to spend on their clients and keep the good reationship running.

Today, only INTC and very few other companines like MSFT, SUNW and ORACLE has these kinds of enginnering/market muscles to grow and educate the markets. AMD should get the credit for K-6. But I doubt it has the muscle to invent things like MMX and standarize it in the industry.

The Alpha just doesn't have enough software to run. Disregard that all developers have to do is to recompile the source to get the
i86 binary translated into alpha binary. It is going to be used in vertical market only.

The setback to INTEL on the stock market is temporary. INTEL will get stronger because of the health competitions. I am little confused from the ohter INTC thread ( there are two groups talking into two extreme directions ), so I talked to friends working at AMD and INTEL and found out the truth myself. My finding is the threat is little more phschological than real. Soon when Pentiumn 300 Mhz is out , K-6 is no longer the faster one than Pentium Pro, plus there is no chipset to support K-6 in the server market.....I will talk to some other motherboard designer and find their view of K-6 too.

Hope the 2 cents value I put here is worth reading.

Looking forward to the April 14 earning report and splits on May.
Long on INTC.

Henry
