Linux WILL stand out as one of the leading OS plateform for internet serving, but whether it will replace Windows NT as the NO.1 player remains to be seen. As for consumer level competition with Windows 95/98 is not a priority now for Linux designers, at least not before year2000 when its level of ease of use and application support(games, office apps) could reach that of current Windows, but it is chaning fast.

The latest version of RedHat 6.0 is pretty amazing, fully graphical KDE desktop, with WEB, email, ftp, and even Windows workgroup services are included right out of the box, NT is going to have a hard time competing with it.
