Well, there's another informed intellectual and analytical response.
As I said, I'm no expert - all I was saying was that the question itself (is NT an appropriate server for this system) involves the realm of opinion, not fact, and requires some understanding of the entire system architecture before a definitive opinion can emerge, true? Or is it always true in all instances that UNIX will make more sense as a server O/S environment in all instances over NT, no matter what the application, what the plug in devices to the system might ultimately be, what the security protocol might be, etc. (remember, UTS modules work off of ATED encryption devices, and have cellular, internet and intranet connectivity -- might that matter?).
I assume VTS will be using redundancy to minimize the possibility or effects of a total system crash. I also assume that 3 rounds of successful Beta testing involved a continuous stream of "mock" transactions for days or weeks on end, in order to simulate on-line conditions. And I note that the Microsoft press release named a number of other companies in this field (including Optimark) that use the NT architecture. So I gather that experts in the field (including some with considerably greater knowledge of VTS/UTS particular requirements than any of us have) might weigh in differently on this question, right?
The latter questions were aimed at the I/T experts who chose to offer up more than their unrefined opinion about the use of NT as an O/S for the VTS system. And I was not denigrating the possibility that Auric might be making a good point - only that the conclusion is not a matter of black and white, but involves opinion which might be better received if any of us here had even the slightest understanding of VTS's system architecture, as a totality. Fair??
