Another approach to Favourites ... As usual, it's rather odd!
Like you guys, I have a population explosion of favourites to find housing for. To keep it simple, when I find I'm getting lost in my favourite maze, I copy the whole bunch to a HTML file so I can display the whole mess on one screen, which can comfortably hold about 100 links, and once I get used to where they are, I can navigate with comfort. Every year or so, I weed the garden and make room for a fresh crop.
Since I hate to scroll, I just add links to new files whenever needed.
I don't have 4,000 links, but if I did, I'd have one screen of links to 40 pages of 100 each. What I find convenient is being able to place a lengthy description with each link. I also control the order too.
Another thing I find handy: with sites which require a username and password, I can put the username (and PW hint) with the link. Nothing like signing-up and forgetting who you are!
One upside to this -- I copied ONE file to bring them from my old Netscape machine to my new Explorer machine. (Actually one, then the missing files later.)
Cheers, PW. |
