There is an additional benefit to cutting down your position size and trying increase the average gain per WIN. Trading 500 shares for 3/4 point is much easier to achieve for many traders than 1000 shares for 3/8 point.

It's all on the risk side of the equation. You can let a 500 share position move against you further and capitalize on larger swings than a 1000 share one. And considering how much whipsaw there is in the market, you're more likely to sell a 1000 share position prematurely than a 500 share one.
