E,

I had the same idea. I was really put off by this statement in the newspaper this morning-

People are beginning to understand that when you take any sense of the spiritual being out of the public square, look what happens."
(Andrea Sheldon- Traditional Values Coalition) She was blaming Littleton on "a void in those boys' lives".

This movement may be well-intended but it seems a dubious and simplistic connection to me. There are many children from homes of different faiths and of no faith who have no problems with ethics and morality- who are able to stay within the lines.
But they are seeking to impose a particular Being and His Specific Laws on all children-with taxpayer dollars, I assume, paying for the postings? And that IS an infringement of rights.

The children of Christian homes already are receiving this training at home and at church. If they are not receiving it, then that is the choice of the parents NOT to teach them ethics as a spiritual commandment coming from some Supreme Being. It is not the job of the government to usurp that role. Morality can be taught within the system without religious connotations. Why do they assume that the laws of No killing, no stealing, no cheating only have power when
it comes from the Judeo-CHristian God?

Also- from a practical point of view- if they aren't going to teach it, and all it is is some list taped to a wall, what influence exactly do they think it's going to have on lives????? That's the silliest thing I ever heard. Government. Sheesh..
