Simply recognizing our cultural heritage does not mean you're not tolerant nor respectful of others religions or non-religions.

The Constitution gives us subtle reminders of what was. "If any bill shall not be returned by the President within ten days (Sunday excepted)". Why Sundays excepted? For exactly the same reason that to this day mail is not delivered in America on Sundays. America was founded as a Christian nation and, as such, Sunday is special. It is considered the "Lords Day". Similarly, Israel was founded as a Jewish nation, and mail is not delivered on Saturday because Saturday is Shabbat, the Jewish Sabbath.

I wonder if today, the Declaration of Independence could ever be adopted, because many people would protest the use of the word "Creator". It would probably be bemoaned as an endorsement of religion by government. However, there was no debate over the phrase "Edowed by their Creator" (with an upper C.) The fact that America was founded as a Christian nation is beyond debate. Our founding father took the understanding that we were "One nation under God" for granted.

America has always been a religious country without demanding allegiance to a specific church. Congress opens with a prayer (and still does), and the Ten Commandments are posted on courtrooms and schoolrooms all across this land.
