Big deal. For a "post-production errata," it's pretty tame considering that it has already been fixed in current versions of the chipset. That's pretty quick, especially since there are very few 810-based PCs out in the market right now.

Net effect: Zero. Maybe some defective 810 chipsets have already escaped out onto the marketplace, but I doubt it's that many."

As a stand alone item I agree with you that it is not a big deal.

But the recall will get press on monday together with AMD/API press so wait for analysts to chew on this one.

However it illustrates the fact that Intel is now in a real horse race and the luxury of time to complete full validation has vanished as AMD has stepped up the pressure.

If AMD really starts to ship K7's at 550/600/?? soon the pressure to catch up will be immense.

Unfortunately that's when mistakes occur and such mistakes get magnified tremendously.

If Intel doesn't meet the revised promised Coppermine date for November they will have more egg on their face again and will likely fall even further behind.

And clearly flawless execution will be required from Intels side to enable them to ship any volumes of Coppermines by November.

Paul is talking about them cutting corners on qualification by extra burn-in to meet ship dates.

Seems like a pretty desperate situation to me frankly-reminds me of AMD more and more.
