I'm just writing with respect to the Kondratiev wave idea. I think this is wrong. There couldn't have been such cycles in the stagnant 15th century, for example. Science and technology are changing the world ever faster and faster. Each time has its own reasons for ups and downs. And in the age of services, commodities don't rule the economic scene any more. Only oil can do that and only temporarily while we hastily adjust. What ever happens isn't programmed into 56 year cycles in advance.
