Richard,

thanks for your response.Your assessment of the big pharmas was quite interesting.I was surprised you gave so high ratings to Novartis. I actually have some investments in this company, and I believe that they are currently underrated, as well as their long term pipeline.
Besides, they have the 'advantage' that they do not have to give away stock options and buy back stocks on the open market.
Thus, they generate an enormous free cash flow, which allows them to make aggressive nondilutive acquisitions with cash.

I was surprised by you positive rating for AHP - they are generally regarded as conservative - which does somehow contradict your high rating regarding the management of scientist.

No respect for Pfizer? Well they must do something right because they seem to have the best near term pipeline.

I also like the medium size biotechs, those with real products - but it just can be so frustrating to hold these stocks.

Bayer and Hoechst/RPR both seem to have nothing in the pipeline as far as the eye can see. They lost their drive somewhere in the seventies and now rely on cost cutting to make their earnings. Pathetic for me as a German to see how the industry of my country lost the lead.
But my guess is that the europeans will have a comeback. The US drug market had a much higher growth and high pricing - and this has masked some weaknesses in US companies, IMHO

Good luck with your investments,

Ralf
