as i was reading this morning's philadelphia inquirer i see K MART as a possible takeover target . here is the small artical

Kmart Corp. shares rose 12 percent yesterday on speculation that the discount retailer may be a takeover target of supermarket chains bracing for competition from Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Safeway Inc., the supermarket chain, may be considering buying Kmart, Business Week reported in its "Inside Wall Street" column Thursday. Kmart rose $1.813 to $17 in New York Stock Exchange trading of 16.6 million shares, almost six times the three-month daily average.
