I disagree. If Intel can weather the Pentium floating point flap, then Cisco can handle problems like outages, etc.

No one thinks that the complexity inherent in these things is trivial, and they trust Cisco to deliver the best solutions possible and address problems when they arise.

No startup is going to challenge Cisco directly and make a go of it. They just do not have the sales channel or univeral accessibility to accounts that Cisco has.

The potential for challenge lies in the startup community generating excellent technology, and having that technology leveraged (acquired) by a major competitor (Nortel, Lucent), and then executed well.

It's that last piece that is the real kicker.
