Actually, it isn't price that got their foot in the door, but successful marketing. Price made the marketing fly, then they had to overcome the quality issue - which, I might add, they are not winning now. It is pretty much a dead heat. Detroit WAS asleep, but now it's a highly competitive marketplace...as it should be. Now the big thing is??? Anyone? Anyone? Branding. And AAPL's iMac has done a wonderful job of this.
