I have got to belive that the recent CD Radio announcement with Ford will be utilizing EPAC. Anybody wish to differ? And if so, this will really bode well for the continued penetration of EPAC. During the recent Ford/CD Radio press conference, CD Radio stated that they will initially only support one delivery mechanism. However, they also stated that they will eventually have to support competing delivery systems (this is where the DSP comes to play).

TWOMIL, I believe, has emphasized that EPAC will be tightly controlled (source code, etc), and that Lucent may choose EDIG to source all of the various contracts that use an EPAC reference design. Is this an opportunity for EDIG, either directly or indirectly (indirectly via the continued penetration of EPAC)? I know that all roads don't lead to EDIG, but....

CD Radio/ Ford Announcement:

corporate-ir.net

"Ford vehicles are expected to be the first cars and trucks in the nation to have factory-installed satellite radio receivers. The exclusive agreement includes all seven Ford brands -- Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, Jaguar, Aston Martin and Volvo."

CD Radio Launch:
216.33.174.215

"Assuming all goes well, Lucent will have an exclusive on chipset production of at least 15 months from the time the 1,000th receiver is made from the second chipset generation.

Lucent also has the right to sell chips to other companies, including those involved with CD Radio competitors, providing they are licensed by CD Radio."

CD Radio and Lucent Technologies form chip pact :
public1.lucent.com

"New York-based CD Radio said it will use digital signal processor (DSP) and radio-frequency chips from Lucent Technologies Microelectronics Group for CD Radio's 50 channel, $9.95-per-month satellite radio broadcast service scheduled for roll-out in the 48 contiguous states beginning on December 1, 1999."
