I totally agree. If you really want to observe some clock-stoppers, go to the "Welcome to SI" thread.

SI is a neat little isolated financial chat site, but thats about it. Anybody think an isolated SI is a business model for the inet competitive landscape - raise your hand....

If SI does not align itself with a strong financial services provider it will cease to exist.

The real threat is actually cnet with their cnbc leverage... fortunately they don't own a discount brokerage because they could set up a monitored financial discussion site with links to trading, staffed with cnbc personnel etc. and that would take a major slice out of SI.

The next step down is etrade who are in acquisition mode... they are valued as a portal and financial discussion is a portal component, etrade could attempt to emulate SI as well. The more cloners the worse for all of us because it fragments the community.
