Ish,

How big are those shad? I throw a 6' net here in Texas freshwater lakes and can usually get about 150-200, 2-3", in a half-hour. Occasionally there will be some bigger ones 6-8" mixed in. These are best for the bigger Stripers and Cats. Last weekend I ran into something I'd never seen before, Stripers were herding the biggest gizzard shad I've seen into schools, but they weren't feeding. They looked like schools of mullet, running right on the surface, I snagged a couple with a topwater plug and measured one at 11' and one at almost 12". I was throwing all kinds of lures around the schools trying to pick up a Striper but only got three small ones and one 5lb. with a Norman Model(JB3) Stick bait in chrome/blue back(one of my favorite lures imagine that :). I'm sure there were some huge Stripers underneath or in the general area, I'm going back tomorrow.
