One exploration stock which actually gained in value throughout the second half of 1998 and rallied again between early February and the end of May is Winspear Resources [V.WSP]. Winspear sounds serious about their Camsell Lake projects, particularly after the announcement appointing Dr. Melissa Kirkley as the company's chief geologist. Kirkley had previously worked at the DiaMet-BHP Ekati diamond project in Canada's Northwest Territories and had been a member of South Africa's Kimberlite Research Group, working with diamond exploration guru Dr. John Gurney.
Winspear's modest success at Snap Lake has led to other exploration projects in the Slave region of the Northwest Territories. The successes at Snap Lake may explain the loyalty of WSP shareholders. More probably, the Diamondex spin-off of non-Snap Lake assets, which include the exploration projects mentioned above, could be the spark that lights the fuse for WSP shares. The Camsell Lake properties, in which Snap Lake is found, could result in a significant series of diamond discoveries. There may be a July, rather than an August to September, rally in WSP if the company returns from suspended trading, pending the imminent release of assay results. . After that, it depends on what Winspear plans for next winter.
