John - Re: "I didn't use to think this way in the past but these guys are either incompetent or crooked there is no other way to rationalize their dumb assessments. "

I actually thought Edelstone's downgrade was warranted.

Intel has mis-fired on the Coppermine at a critical time - on the eve of AMD's K7 launch. The K7 has the "potential" of competing head on with Intel's best x86 CPUS - or even surpassing them.

For Intel to slip on Coppermine - the CPU that could maintain Intel's technology lead over AMD - could have a serious negative effect on Intel's image and market share. Allowing AMD to get its "nose under the tent" of Intel's high end customers is a very serious deal.

Couple that with all the other slipped and slipping schedules - Camino/Rambus, Profusion, 810 hiccups, etc., and you have a real scenario for an earnings impact.

Intel will recover from all this - hopefully in short order - but Edelstone had all the right reasons for doing what he did.

I just hope Intel pulls its bacon out of the fire - soon.

Paul
