The pressure for a split would come from becoming S&P 500; institutions want wider distribution and a lower purchase price, that is, along the lines of what you say.

I just didn't think the company would want to spend the money on calling a meeting just to authorize more shares. It could do a 1 for 2 and avoid those additional costs while dropping the entry price to about 80. I guees it could send the proxy statement at the same time as the 3rd Q report and save a lot of cost.
