K.V. The A.G. Edwards recommendation came on an initial coverage. I for one would have been very surprised to see the opening hand called a strong buy. One of the problems for those of us familiar with ANLT and its past performance is that it's hard to recognize the change in the scene. Momentum plays are now reduced to the pie-in the-sky stocks. In addition, money flow which had been flooding the investment arena has slowed substantially and up until the upcoming FOMC meeting is concluded and the size of the rate increase and thinking of the FRB is divulged money managers are going to continue keeping their powder dry.

The divergence in pre-earnings release warnings also has had an effect on the more adventurous players. Gillette coming in with their bombshell certainly did not pump up the crowd and Compaq's inability to get out from behind the eight ball certainly did not reflate the Tech gang's enthusiasm, especially when it was followed up by the Intel down grade. What we do seem to have going for us is the better climate surrounding the mid-cap stocks and the cyclicals where there is a trend towards improved earnings. A.G. Edwards has not been noted for chasing rainbows to get to the pot of gold but has been very successful in uncovering value situations. The one think we both agree on is that there certainly is value to be found in positioning ANLT in a portfolio on any weakness. In time the shorts who have been banking on some kind of financial hanky panky scandal will be forced to either average up at much higher prices or throw in the towel.
Either way I still expect to see a new higher trading level established for the stock before the year is out.
