It's always a matter of perspective, Christine. From where I sit the NRA is no choir of angels - but at least they're on a libertarian and Constitutionally sound page. (I know you don't think so. You know that I do.) It just impresses itself on me that tyhe antis are interested in social control - imho an evil thing - and they are cloaking it in sugary talk of social prudence. I've seen some of the statistics you've sent my way - and some of them are absurd. But for me to PROVE their absurdity would require both of us to agree to an equitable semantic deconstruction of all the loaded canted propaganda that passes for "news" these days. Canted both ways mind you - I'm not convinced the media are entirely Stalinists.
And we tried and failed on several occasions to arrive at hat neutral place. So at this point I'd like to not feel pressure to argue the same scrap of cant again - and at the same time I don't want it to be construed as cowardice or sloth on my part. We disagree on this issue. Deeply and it seems irrevocably. And that is why it isn't really fun for me to argue this issue. Just as Chris has been pushed past his fun point by personal remarks he took very deeply into his heart. While I don't agree with his intellectual position, it grieves me to see his emotional position so injured.
I mean it when I speak of resiliency. I'm seeing an erosion of it among my most intimate fellow-posters. So it behooves me to step back a bit and keep it lite, simple and fun. Grant me this boon: let's keep it clean.
