OT CF product question: I am now happily using the Kodak DC210 plus, but the first problem I encounter is the incredibly slow speed in trying to load pics to the PC through the provided serial cable (also, Kodak's included "Picture Easy 3.1" photo management software is totally lame and buggy). My guess is that one of the card reader solutions is the answer, and then you can skip the photo mangler [sic] and just work pics like the files they are. My question is, Are the parallel port CF readers (only about 50 bucks) good (i.e., fast enough--1.5 Mbps claimed), and if so, does anybody have a suggestion as to brand? Buy.com is selling a Kingston reader for $49, and a Kodak one for $52 or so. I know there was some discussion of readers earlier in the thread, but was a little confused by some comments that I interpreted as saying a SCSI reader was slower than USB (not likely). My thing is, I'd rather not lay out $265 for a SCSI reader (plus a SCSI card) if the cheap parallel port solution will be a significant improvement over the serial cable (I only have an 8MB card, so I'm not loading a lot). Any input appreciated! (My search of ZD Net yielded not useful articles re this question.) Thanks, Greg |
