Rick-The .38 pivot is the nearest one to the support/resistance you're retracing from (38% retracement of the range), the .5 is the middle, and the .62 is nearest the other end(62% retracement). My understanding is that .5 is not a true fibonacci number, but is included in fibonacci figures due to its psychological significance. The .38 extensions of prior ranges are often the exhaustion point of the move due to the natural rhythms you mention.
