The gun issue is very difficult for me. I grew up loving guns, hunting, target shooting, winning prizes, collecting really fine famous guns. I taught my children gun safety and marksmanship first thing. I've had guns and bayonets pulled on me while unarmed on duty and had to crack a couple of heads. I didn't even report these guys. Gun confrontations were an almost weekly occurrence growing up where I did. I found a fully loaded army .45 with a neat shoulder holster when I was 10, and stupid that I was turned it in to my father. I really love guns.
But if I were gun czar of the United States I would insist on mandatory sentences and big fines (10 per cent of wealth or more) for violations of the gun laws. I would require manufacturers to post huge bonds to guarantee damages in the case of wrongful sale or distribution. All convicted criminals (including juveniles) would be barred from owning or possessing or shooting guns. All owners would be required to have safety training and use automatic safety devices that could only be unlocked by registered range officials or rangers for hunting. Hunting violations (like Ish's friends sawed off 10 guage pistol) would mean a lifetime ban on gun ownership or use.
If you really wanted to get shot at or shoot, you could join the military or move to Israel or Kosovo.
