If AOL's argument has no credibility whatsoever, then why is Att and the FCC bellowing so loudly?

Because AT&T is smart enough to know how stupid people are. They are smart enough to be afraid of how stupid people are.

If you think about it, this is what is behind all of the vehement reaction to the idea of open access. There may well be some way to accomplish it that is good for all concerned, however few who understand the nature of human organizations expect that it would go that way.
When people set out to enforce what is "right" people almost always do the opposite. The more people involved the worse it gets.
