Linux Applications Available from Gigabuys.com; Factory-Installation Of Red Hat Linux 6.0 Expands to Europe, Planned for Asia-Pacific Region
ROUND ROCK, Texas, May 26, 1999 -- Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq: DELL), the world's leading direct computer systems company, today announced several initiatives to broaden the availability to Dell customers, of products and information for the Linux operating system for Dell customers. These initiatives include:
Establishment of a dedicated section of Dell's Gigabuys.com online superstore for Linux software packages. Customers can now purchase a variety of Linux development tools and software packages via gigabuys.com, either in a stand-alone transaction or in conjunction with their Dell desktop, workstation or server purchases.
Creation of a central location to obtain current information about Linux through an expanded Web site at dell.com.
Availability in the United States, effective today, of the Red Hat Linux 6.0 operating system factory-installed on select, certified configurations of Dell OptiPlex® business desktop computers, PowerEdge® servers and Dell Precision™ WorkStations.
Availability, effective today, in Europe of Red Hat Linux 6.0 factory-installed on select, certified configurations of Dell Precision WorkStations. Availability in Asia-Pacific is expected later in the second quarter.

"Dell customers can now visit a single Web site to purchase hardware certified for and installed with Red Hat Linux, as well as software applications written specifically for the Linux operating system."
Dell was the first company to receive multiprocessor certification from Red Hat for its four-processor PowerEdge 6300 enterprise server and its two-processor Dell Precision WorkStations. Dell now offers Red Hat Linux 6.0 factory-installed on configurations of its PowerEdge 1300, 2300, 4300, 4350, 6300 and 6350 servers; Dell Precision 410 and 610 workstations; and OptiPlex GX1 and GX1p desktop PCs.
