There they go again.
Instead of spending time protecting your freedom or keeping the United States safe from threats overseas, Congress has decided to focus its efforts on regulating the internet.
Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ) has once again introduced legislation that would ban some types of gaming on the internet, despite overwhelming evidence that people want the government to stay out of their home computers. What's most troubling about this legislation is that it treats internet access as a privilege that can be taken away by the government-rather than as an unalienable right.
Done at the behest of the religious right and groups in Las Vegas and Atlantic City that fear competition, Senator Kyl's bill would REQUIRE your internet service provider to CLOSE YOUR WEB ACCOUNT if caught gambling online.
Incredibly, the legislation, S. 692, makes accepting a $5 bet on the Superbowl a federal crime, but specifically allows for internet wagering on horse racing, dog racing, jai-alai, and, in extraordinarily hypocritical fashion, state lotteries.
YOU CAN HELP. By clicking on the button on the right, you can send a letter to both of your Senators and your Member of Congress urging them to stop wasting the country's time on nonsense like imposing another 1920's style unenforceable prohibition. UNLESS YOU AND OTHER CONCERNED AMERICANS WEIGH IN, CONGRESS WILL CONTINUE TO CAVE IN TO THE DEMANDS OF THE RADICAL RIGHT AND KEEP CHIPPING AWAY AT YOUR FREEDOM.
Let your representatives and Senator Jon Kyl know that you're tired of Washington telling you what you can and can't do. Tell Congress that if they keep this sort of nonsense up, pretty soon it's going to be time to start looking for new jobs. |
