I am reminded while reading some of the wild goings on here of late, of something you once observed that struck me as very wise: that faith cannot be defended with reason. It is there or it is not.

For those of us who have it, faith is a source of inspiration to grow, to lead better lives, to think and question, to show real love and kindness to the people around us on this planet, regardless of their own beliefs.

It does not have to be a place to hide for the weak and I resent any statement to that effect. You and I share a faith, yet I think it's reasonably clear that we are anything but shrinking violets intellectually. Faith does not equate to blindness and the greatest of the saints have questioned.

At the same time, I think it is foolish to insist that any particular faith has some sort of "hot line" to truth to the exclusion of others or even to maintain that faith--whether it be Islam, Taoism, Judaism, etc.--is the only way a person can lead a good and caring life.
