Hi Edwarda, long time no post.
I don't ordinarily argue about religion, but I am starting to worry that we are approaching a time to stand up and be counted. But, I really think what I am arguing about is politics.
If well-meaning people truly believe that keeping religion out of public schools is destructive to religion, I don't think it is going to be fruitful to reason with them, because our understandings are so far apart as to be irreconcilable. And, the difference between what we believe shouldn't make any difference, except that now these same well-meaning people want to do something about their beliefs, by inserting them into these same public schools. If so, I have no choice but to fight them.
But I won't fight them anymore here on SI. I've tried to reason with my opponents, and had no response to the points I've made, so I know it's fruitless to try. I'll fight them where political differences should be fought, in the election booth and in the courtrooms. I'm going to petition my representatives not to vote for the law. If they do vote for the law, I'll give money and support to their opponents. If that law is passed, I'll be one of the first to the nearest federal courthouse with an injunction suit. |
