I have heard some weirder renditions than yours of evolutionary creationism. Yours is one with which I have no problem; it was what I was taught in a very strict parochial school as a child. In fact, random-event evolution as the theory emerged was even considered simply part of the ongoing creation.

This concept of God seems to elude many people, which surprises me.
