I have no problem with the 'will of the majority' prevailing when that will is expressed via a thousand (million) independent statements by a thousand (million) individuals or voluntary associations. And I have no doubt that if schools were the province of such voluntary group actions, that many (indeed, probably most) would feature prominently displayed symbols and statements of moral behavior such as the 10 commandments (in one or more of the several versions extant)... as well as certain quotations from the Koran, Magna Carta, and Robert Heinlein.

BUT... when the oppressive weight of governmental institutions is involved, an enforced/encouraged/sanctioned expression (even though nominally benevolent) of any 'majority's will' becomes of necessity an element of tyranny.
