brk and all,

If you don't like ads, then that is precisely why you should be encouraging the Datek partnership.... why the objection? Of all the inet businesses the brokerages are the ones making the most money (of course they mostly are losing money because they have the luxury to do so for now while trying to gain market share).

If SI is combined in some way with Datek as a financial portal, then Datek will serve as the revenue generating vehicle for SI.

The alternative - a stand alone site - will need to rely exclusively on advertising and that is a risky proposition because many online ad spaces go unsold currently.

BTW in my mind "banner ads" incorporate the big brother technology that Dclk, tfsm, netg etc. provide... this is where a cookie is maintained that watches where you go on the web and serve you on a selective basis. Links don't do that. To me that is the biggest difference between a banner ad and a link so the Datek thing qualifies as a link.... which is not to say its ok however it is a different animal in my mind
