Mutation and selection has been shown in the lab. I stated that. You are confusing the study of mechanisms with a theory that states over time things happen to produce new species. Natural evolution has not been shown. It is silly to stoop to the level of the irrational religious zealots when defending science. We should lead by example. I do not feel any need to defend science as if it were my religious belief. Because it is not. I have no beliefs I care to defend irrationally- I am willing to examine everything I believe in. Perhaps you are too invested to do this- I don't know. But your emotionality weakens your argument. We are babes in the scientific woods. I personally think that our not knowing is fine and beautiful, and it is not necessary to invest the "not knowing" with a face and call it God.

It is the ultimate arrogance of science that leads to its rejection when theories begin to be stated as facts. Then science becomes as irrational as religion- something I do not wish to see happen. Remember the nuclear power "beliefs" of the 50's? Power too cheap to measure. Terraforming with nuclear weapons. Science abounds with examples of good scientists lynched by their peers for ideas that later proved to be correct- because theories had been accepted as fact. We must be ever vigilant lest science become irrational. We do this best by being skeptical about everything, including our own cherished ideas.
