Partner on discounts to make ISDN -which can transmit at 128K over standard phone lines-more affordable. Bell Atlantic waiving $125 ISDN installation charge and teaming with 3Com to offer modems at a $40 discount. The 3Com modems come with software for Bell Atlantic's dial-up Internet service and a one-month trial period for $2. After the first month, subscriptions start at $19.95. The current offers are limited to the mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. But the action may spur competitors into offering similar deals, which would be the first bit of good ISDN news in some time.
