Brad -

I'm not a real purist when it comes to this stuff. Maybe I just came to the internet too late. Anyway, I don't understand what all the fuss is about. The Datek thingie (I certainly don't consider it a "banner" ad) is discreet, fits in with the overall graphics and structure of the page, and doesn't add to the load time as far as I can tell. The ad is fine with me.

I understand all the "slippery slope" arguments, but I also understand that SI needs to be profitable if it is to continue to exist. The Datek ad seems to be a fairly benign way to generate revenue. It's certainly preferable to some of the alternatives. For example, if SI went the route of TheStreet.com and started selling subscriptions in bulk to brokerage houses, I think it would do much more harm to the SI community than that crummy little ad ever could.

Just my opinion.

A very grateful lifetime member,

Mark
