It is alive...Cooler sighting confirmed:

Went to a little larger ShopKo today and the Water Chef Infinity Water Cooler was spotted. It was right next to the purification systems that I had seen at the other ShopKo stores. They had two units packaged in a box, and one unit out of the box for all the world to see, for a total shelf space of 3 units. The unit is creamy white made of hard molded plastic (advertised on the rather generic looking box as rust resistant), stands about 3 1/2 feet tall, about 20 inches wide, and appears to weigh about 30 pounds. Looks like a mini refrigerator on the back with the cooling coils. Units hold 3 gallons of ice cold water. The unit was selling for $199.99.

Personal opinion: WTER needs to do a better job of packaging the item. There are no specs, info, etc. on the outside of the box. It is a plain box that is unremarkable in appearance. It doesn't bring attention to itself. If it wouldn't be for the display model, a prospective buyer would have no idea what their were buying.

Regarding the price, no comment. I don't know what is reasonable in this arena. I do know that ShopKo carries similar $150 to $200 items that you would also see at Wal Mart, Target, and K-Mart, and ShopKo would be anywhere from $15 to $50 more than those other stores. Does ShopKo have higher profit margins than the others, or do the extra dollars go to the manufacturers? Probably a combination.

That's it for now...
