Harold:MariaB CNBC stated today, 3COM to meet or exceed expectations. In today's market environment, meeting expectation is not a positive for any stock. Man, you are going out on a limb w/a high .07 over expectations. Nonetheless, it could be obtainable. Last years earnings difference from Feb 98 = .02 and May 98 = .18 is a difference of $.16. (Half of this is .08) In theory, if US Robotic fiasco (ie... negative cash flow & final merge financial charges) is behind us, w/good product sales during a good seasonal period, and couple of new products especially PALM (small %) nonetheless a small boost, I believe your analysis/ie..estimate of >.05 to .07 could be obtainable. In addition, if Nov 98 EPS was .36 then your est.28 /.30 could be a good whisper number. I believe, .26 to .28 is down to earth number myself however I am very very conservative. My concern could be a surprise from Eric/&CFO on the US Robotic final merge charges during this quarter if it is not fully intergated yet. However, 3COM will hold the any further charges for next quarter because of the lawsuits. In any case, they want to show a very good number this quarter to demonstate some creditablity to share holders and to the market makers. - .... later ... Take Care.. Al.
