Record-Breaking Performances Achieved On
ProLiant Servers and Compaq Storage Solutions

Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ), the world's leading PC
server vendor, today produced new, record-breaking one-, two- and
four-processor server and Oracle Parallel Server (OPS) performance
benchmarks on its award-winning ProLiant Server platforms and a
soon-to-be-announced Smart Array storage controller based on a new
64-bit processor architecture. Continuing to demonstrate performance
leadership, the Compaq ProLiant 7000 and Smart Array storage
controller, designed by leading Compaq engineers, set the new all-time
TPC 4-processor performance record by breaking the 25,000 transactions
per minute (tpmC) barrier with 25,065.3 tpmC.
Compaq also earned best price/performance awards for six other
ProLiant servers (see below) each configured with Smart Array storage
controllers for high capacity and performance and increased data
availability. These performance milestones demonstrate Compaq's
continuing commitment to lowering customers' ownership costs over the
life of their systems.

--The ProLiant 5500 earned best price/performance of any sized
system with the first TPC-C of less than $16/tpmC with $15.11/tpmC.

--The ProLiant 3000-6/500-1P server posted 7084.5 tpmC at
$28.34/tpmC for the best price/performance of all single-processor
systems.

--The ProLiant 3000-6/500 2P server posted 12033.6 tpmC resulting
in $23.03/tpmC for the best price/performance of all dual-processor
systems.

--The ProLiant 7000-6/500-4P server posted 25,065.3 tpmC at just
$18.88/tpmC for the best performance of all quad-processor systems
regardless of chip architecture or operating system.

--The ProLiant 5500-6/500-4P server earned best price/performance
with 20,195.5 tpmC at only $15.11/tpmC.

--The ProLiant 6500-PDC/0100 achieved 40,077.23 tpmC at
$40.40/tpmC, offering the best Microsoft Windows NT performance
running OPS and best cluster price/performance.
