Good point. One thing is that this is taking lots longer than anyone would have thought. So I decided to go to Portugal anyway and I just got back from 2 weeks there. Spent the time is the Southern part including the Algarve which is the beach area. This is quite lovely but overbuilt and one needs to be careful where one stays if one cares about having a nice room. Overall I came away with the impression of a poor country rich in Roman history and ruins with good and unusual food and lots of passion in the latin style, like in Spain and Italy. The mores however are conservative like in Greece with the widows wearing black and the middle aged women staying inside. The young ones are out in droves and are clearly modernized, in some cases rivaling the French, close at least. The day I spent in Paris however still had the best views. The streets are narrow and cobblestoned and this was done to keep invaders out. A great oceanarium and art museum in Lisbon are excellent. The bullfight was a bit stylized and not worth the time imho. I would say for beach celebrations the Greek islands are better. Still unique and worth seeing and if you like drinking Port, this is the place.
