Is there a historian in the house?

My recollection from A Distant Mirror is that indeed the pit at the Globe and other theaters was for the working classes, and that productions were well attended. Also, I have read more than once that people in the 1800s, with the number of religious festivals and prohibitions against working on the Sabbeth, actually worked fewer hours than an average union worker today.
