Careful reading of the PC world article suggests that the computers involved were not really comparable. The AMD K6 was 233MHz, but used an expensive SCSI hard drive and twice the cache of the 266 MHz Intel Pentium II , a 266 MHz chip. If the Intel powered computer had used these it's performance would be even better. In any case, AMD is trying to hit a moving target. It will probably be several months at a minimum before AMD can get the bugs out and institute mass production. I believe the Klamath was designed mainly to increase manufacturing yields rather than speed. This should be good for Intel's bottom line.
Every time this has happened in the past, it has been a good time to buy INTC . I probably will be a buyer on the day after AMD official K6
introduction, especially if the price is lower.
