brees, I don't have any studies on this but I actually believe the low point for family relations was in the late 60s up until the mid 70s vs. today. So, if TV is worse now than then, to me that would mean that it has little influence as far as I'm concerned.

When I was a teenager in the late 70s was the absolute worst... there was a huge generation gap (I think it had to do with the 60s being in between the parents' and the kids lives). There was a real resentment towards family among younger people, and a lot of discrimination against small children in apt buildings, restaurants etc. It was a wierd time and difficult to explain unless you lived through it.
