Re: The PC will win the battle against server-based computing.. What MD means is that a server centric model of computing for the masses won't win out... i.e. thin clients. His assertion is that increasing the bandwidth of the internet will necessitate more power on the desktop... not less. Servers will deliver the content, PC's will manipulate it. Thin clients or internet terminals rely on the server for all computing tasks... not a good model for load balancing and would make the internet seem slow again once the bandwidth bottleneck is removed.
