Oh I dunno. I think I actually stand a chance at mounting an argument that even you will grudgingly admit holds merit.

Look at it this way. Everyone oughtta be accorded the right to succeed or fail, right? Let's take two similar kids - both bright and healthy and decently ambitious. One comes from a middle-class suburban neighborhood, the other from urban Ground Zero. Which one is gonna be more likely to become a useful member of society? The suburban kid. Primarily because he'll have gotten more exposure to the very POSSIBILITIES of life.
Kids are the unfair losers in a society that educates its young unevenly. I say give all kids a crack at basic literacy - reading, math, 'puter, what jobs are available. Then if either kid wants to become a gutterbum it will NOT be for lack of a better idea. I believe that ANY society is enriched by teaching all its kids ('xept the ones too dumb or crazy to learn) enough to make an informed decision on whether to succeed or fail.
