I understand what you are saying, and you are probably right about the Venn diagrams. However, I'm not sure that having 200 million guns in private hands creates a situation where people who have them are actually very safe. I believe that the people who FEEL that they need to protect themselves may be a causative factor in how violent the society is, and statistics from other countries with lower rates of gun violence seem to bear that out.

I definitely don't think the NRA tells the truth about guns.
