EBay to announce expansion in Europe -- WSJ
Reuters Story - June 22, 1999 06:08
NEW YORK, June 22 (Reuters) - EBay Inc. , operator of the Internet's largest auction site, is expected Tuesday to unveil the next step in European expansion with an alliance with Germany's Alando.de AG, the Wall Street Journal Europe reported.

Citing people familiar with the situation, the paper said Pierre Omidyar, founder and chairman of eBay, will hold a news conference in Berlin today and outline the company's plans to enter the German market through a strategic partnership with Alando.de.

Officials at eBay and Alando.de, a privately-held German auction site, declined to comment, the Journal said.

EBay already has a UK-based auctioning site and has said that 1999 would be the year of its move into Europe.
