"The upcoming K7 chip, which is supposed to offer AMD some relief in the coming years, is likely to be announced later this month and is being dubbed "Athlon." In quantities of 10,000 units, a 500 MHz K7 will sell for $298, while the 550 MHz version will go for $459 a chip and 600 MHz chip is going out of the door for $686 a chip.

Compaq Computer (nyse: CPQ) and Gateway (nyse: GTW) are two top tier PC makers who are likely to announce machines based on K7 when it is announced on June 28, 1999."
