6/21 News: Lynk Introduces Telephony over IP Gateway with Integrated Gatekeeper and Manager

Business Wire - June 21, 1999 12:29

MISGAV, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 21, 1999--Lynk Ltd., a subsidiary of Better OnLine Solutions, Ltd. ("BOS") (NASDAQ: BOSCF), introduces a complete business-class Telephony over IP Gateway with fully integrated gatekeeper and management functions. The integrated product offers exceptional quality of voice over IP networks, including the Internet, and enables businesses to build flexible and reliable IP telephony networks. This IP telephony solution dramatically cuts the costs associated with telecommunications, especially long distance charges between branch offices.

The Lynk solution is composed of four key elements: the TeleLynk Gateway, the built-in gatekeeper software, the TeleLynk Manager, and the Sentinel RADIUS security and accounting server.

TeleLynk Gateways, which scale from two to 90 ports per platform, are a series of H.323-compliant Telephony over IP solutions with G723.1 compression. The Gateway features a Web-based manager, enabling network administrators to easily monitor and manage all Gateways on the network from a single point of control, and a RADIUS server, providing centralized user authentication and accounting services.

Mr. Eldad Caspi, Lynk Director of Marketing & Business Development said: "The ability to manage and secure voice traffic over IP networks (including the Internet) has become a critical need for network managers who are responsible for VoIP networks. TeleLynk is the first complete solution which integrates sophisticated gatekeeper, management and security technology in a single IP telephony Gateway package." He added, "We expect that the system's intelligent, yet easy-to-use tools, combined with its record of delivering outstanding-quality voice over the public Internet and private Intranets will have a significant impact on the IP telephony market."

At the center of the system is the gatekeeper service, which provides advanced call routing and bandwidth management functions, and controls communications between Gateways. The gatekeeper maintains a registry of all TeleLynk Gateways and Clients on the network and their activity. Using this registry, the gatekeeper translates telephone numbers to IP addresses, and then routes calls using the least expensive path according to the system's LCR (Least Cost Routing) tables. The gatekeeper also maintains a detailed call log to support billing.

"The enthusiasm for the Lynk package is very high," said Jacob Lee CEO of LYNK USA, "We have developed the first complete turn-key IP Telephony solution. This means that no special personnel are required to install and maintain the system, nor do companies requiring IP telephony capabilities need to add expensive new routers to achieve excellent communications at steep discounts to conventional long distance telephony," Mr. Lee continued.

Any Gateway on the system can be defined as a gatekeeper on the fly. This gives network administrators flexibility and control not found in Voice over IP systems using standalone gatekeepers. In addition, network administrators can define as many TeleLynk systems as they want as gatekeepers in order to divide the company's IP telephony network into segments. This way, voice packets can be routed over the fastest segments of the network and avoid bottlenecks along the path. Backup gatekeepers on each segment, which mirror main gatekeepers, serve as the insurance system for the company's entire IP telephony network.

Using TeleLynk's least cost routing ("LCR"), administrators can preprogram Gateways to route calls--on a call by call basis-- over the best path to maximize bandwidth and minimize long-distance charges. TeleLynk's Interactive Voice Response ("IVR") functionality allows users to securely log on to their company's IP telephony network using regular telephones.

TeleLynk is available now through distributors and other BOS companies. To order in the United States call Todd White at Pacific InfoSystems: 1-800-973-5250; in the United Kingdom call Better On-line Solutions: 0800-279-5250.
